Project Summary
Generative "Normal" Hands explores the intersection of AI-generated imagery, personal identity, and the concept of "normality" in body representation. Using Photoshop’s AI tools, I generated hands based on my own uniquely shaped hand, which is missing several fingers. Through the power of generative AI, these hands were then altered to fit a "standard" or "normalized" shape, with additional fingers artificially added. The project presents a visual collage of these AI-generated hands, posing a critical question: What does it mean for technology to impose standardized forms of the human body, and how does it shape our understanding of normalcy and difference?
Goals
Challenging the Concept of "Normal": AI's Role in Shaping Anatomy
To challenge the notion of "normal" in human anatomy and how AI-driven tools standardize or normalize these representations.
Exploring the Impact of AI on Personal Identity and Non-Standard Bodies
To reflect on the potential implications of AI technologies on personal identity and the experiences of people with non-standard physical traits.
Fostering Dialogue on Inclusivity and Accessibility in AI Design
To spark conversation about inclusivity and accessibility in the design of AI systems and how they can better accommodate diverse body types.
